Unsustainable Aquaculture

Solution Turned Problem
Welcome!

Hello and welcome! This website is dedicated to the ins and outs of aquaculture, digging into the unsustainable practices and effects on the environment and people as well as solutions to combat those effects. Aquaculture farms fish to provide the world with approximately 50% of the global seafood supply, but with the development of this industry there are negative effects to the environment, marine life and human life. Aquaculture, when done unsustainably, contributes to water pollution from fish waste, pesticides, chemicals, parasites and diseases. These contaminants can travel and affect wild fish and marine environments. The development of aquaculture locations has impacted the environment on the coast, such as mangroves and wetlands, which affects both people and animal life. The information on this website covers the problem of aquaculture as well as solutions to combat the negative effect, like what the individual can do and solutions being demonstrated around the world.
